Who are we?

Pro-Homes CT is a pro-homes coalition of neighbors and nonprofits advocating for more equitable, affordable, and environmentally-sustainable land use policies in Connecticut, with a focus on expanding the diversity and supply of our housing stock. Formed in June 2020, in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd and the renewed conversation on racial justice, our work is about first imagining and then enacting a new vision for local and state land use policies that promotes racial, economic, and climate justice. Read more about our work in our Annual Reports.

The work of Pro-Homes CT focuses on three primary functions: educating the public through workshops, trainings, and issue briefs; researching current land use policies and measuring the positive impact of reforms; and organizing advocacy campaigns at the state and local levels, focusing on empowering local residents to speak for the kinds of changes they want to see.

Communications Internship

Timeframe: Starting immediately

We want a creative, hard-working, and socially engaged intern to ensure our communications reach the widest possible audience in Connecticut and beyond. You will be responsible for running our social media accounts on Twitter/X, Instagram/Reels, Bluesky, Facebook and LinkedIn) and nascent short form content which includes designing posts, recording videos and managing engagement, planning our monthly/weekly social media content calendar with other team members, tracking news articles about us and related work in CT and other states, and editing/compiling our weekly newsletter to our coalition members, and some occasional work on our webpage. It’s pretty simple - the more people see our reports, videos, and events, the more power we’ll have to make the kinds of pro-homes change we want in Connecticut. We want you to own this process.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • An interest or background in social media strategy, including how to design an engagement strategy across multiple social platforms, how to manage a media calendar of content posting, and how to measure engagement and/or willingness to learn

  • A background or interest in housing, racial justice, or climate justice issues

  • Experience video editing using Instagram Edits or some other mobile editing platform

  • The ability to work independently and flexibly and to turn around deliverables quickly and reliably

  • An availability of 5-10 hours per week

  • The availability to attend weekly day-time Zoom meetings with our fun and nerdy team

  • The hunger to see real economic, racial, and social justice progress in Connecticut and the drive to be part of it

Nice to have, but OK if you don’t:

  • Experience editing using Premiere Pro or some other desktop editing platform

  • Some web design and graphic design experience

  • Some familiarity with G-suite tools, Squarespace, Canva, MailChimp, and Slack

This is a paid ($18/hr) remote internship. Open to students across Connecticut. We strongly encourage those with lived experiences of housing insecurity to apply. This internship will commence immediately and would ideally continue into the fall.

Please send a brief cover letter, resume, and social media portfolio (and feel free to include an optional ~30s video explaining your interest) to info@pro-homesct.org on a rolling basis.

Want to Fund an Intern?

While we have many high school, college, and graduate students working on our core team without compensation, we love to provide them with stipends as funding becomes available. Please consider a contribution in the amount of $500 or more! We’ll recognize you in next year’s Annual Report.
